Romantic Relationships
Aside from the weird kindasorta-romantic tension post-issue 17 with Hank, Dawn's main romantic interest is Captain Sal Arsala, the police chief of the local precinct.

Captain Arsala, like Dawn, is possessed of incisive wit and the ability to take in a situation before reacting; what Sal doesn't approve of is vigilantism, at least, not until he meets Dove. (In fact, he falls in love with Dove first before realizing she has an alter ego!)
Knowing Sal's feelings about vigilantism, and not sure of how he will react to the whole "alter ego" thing, Dawn elects to keep her two identities very separate for a while, even dressing up as Dove to go out on dates with Sal--a little "Jem and the Holograms"-esque love situation! |
But after a little while, all this uncharacteristic not-quite-falsehood stuff begins to wear on Dawn, and she creates a solution to the problem: making "Dove" look a bit flighty and irresponsible for a relationship, while making "Dawn" appear more reliable, so that Sal will go for "Dawn" instead. The hilarious thing is that her ruse works, but not for that reason; Sal's got eyes, after all, and he's an investigator at heart, so it didn't actually take him long to work out who the girl is beneath the Dove mask.
Together, Dawn and Sal are well-matched, and the best thing is, he understands the working relationship she has with Hank--he is not threatened by it or jealous of it, because they both have commitments and partners to work with. (It's just that her commitments involve superpowers!)
