Site
Thank you for visiting Lux Perpetua! I hope you've enjoyed learning about Dove and reading the various perspectives I have on her character. The following information endeavors to answer a few questions you might have about this site, plus info on how to affiliate or link-exchange with me here.
Why "Lux Perpetua?"
"Lux perpetua," translated from Latin, is "perpetual light;" I originally heard this phrase as part of a sacred choral piece called "Lux Aeterna" in 2002, when I sang with the North Carolina Governor's School East choir. The song's heavenly, light-filled chords have stayed with me since then, and when I first began to read about Dove, I knew "perpetual light" would be a beautiful way to describe her powers and strengths. The beatific serenity captured by each chord paints Dove as she is--a beacon of peace and calm, perfectly counterbalancing Hawk's chaotic energy--and thus the site name fit like another part of her costume.
Why Does This Site Not Cover Current Comics?
Dove has appeared many, many times in recent years, well after her introduction in 1988. However, this site specifically focuses on her appearances from 1988-1991 (known as "Prime Earth Dove"). Mostly, this is because I have all of the 1988-1991 issues, but I haven't kept up with current DC releases because my wallet suffers from a condition called "Broke-itis." LOL! Plus, there is a significant lack of information or images online about "Prime Earth Dove" as opposed to "New Earth Dove," and I wanted to help remedy that.
About the Creator
I am a casual comic book fan, having been introduced to comics through the HeroClix tabletop miniatures game in 2007 (by the man who would later become my boyfriend). One of the first Clix pieces I received as a gift was a little lady in sky blue and white, appearing in flight. The only name the figurine bore was "Dove," and no one could tell me much about her beyond that. Luckily, my comic book shop's owner knew a bit about the character and pointed me to the series of comics she appeared in...and the rest is history!
It didn't take me long at all to appreciate Dove and Dawn Granger as a uniquely balanced portrayal of a female character in comics--a true rarity--and I set out to learn all I could about her to make this small dedication to her character. As a writer and as a woman, studying Dawn Granger/Dove is intriguing and inspiring to me in so many ways.
